Research on Application of Earth Observation Data in Agricultural Drought Monitoring

During the AMESD SADC Policy Workshop which took place in the Gaborone International Conventions Centre on 9th – 10th October 2012, Mr. Kuri from the University of Zimbabwe presented on how the AMESD receiving stations have been useful to their research projects. The theme of the workshop was “AMESD SADC-THEMA Products and Services: Achievements and perspectives in support of Agriculture and Environmental Management.”. Mr. Kuri revealed how earth observation technologies are essential tool in agricultural drought monitoring, using the Vegetation Condition Index product which is generated by AMESD and distributed to users via satellite receiving stations.
